Help wanted: Vista Metals Georgia job fair seeks 50 workers.
-At least 50 new jobs are tied to the $25 million investment Vista Metals Georgia is making in Adairsville. The Fontana, Calif.-based company purchased the former Foley Products Concrete plant at 800 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and has big plans for the region, according to Bartow economic development experts. On Oct. 9, the company will be working with the Georgia Department of Labor to recruit skilled workers. The job fair is set for 9 a.m. until noon at DOL's Cartersville Career Center, 19 Felton Place. Says the labor department: "A new company ... will be recruiting general helpers and supervisory candidates for their smelting operation. -Veterans Career Expo next up, open to all: The Cartersville Career Center also will host a career expo from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Oct 14 at American Legion Post No. 42 at 1 Roosevelt St. Veterans and others are welcome. "Please come prepared for potential on-the-spot interviews," says the Department of Labor.
Former Five Guys, Schlotzsky's site listed for lease: The 2,800-square-foot site that was home to two editions of Schlotzsky's and, most recently, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, is listed for lease on the commercial website Loopnet. The rate is listed only as "negotiable." For two years, the outparcel at Midtown Crossing was home to Five Guys, a hot premium burger chain. -The Exchange Club of Rome's Americanism Committee presented an American flag to Johnson Elementary on Tuesday. This flag has flown over the Capitol in Washington, D.C., and was sent to the club by U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey to replace the damaged flag at Johnson. Coach Sam Couch had contacted Chairman Giles Chapman, asking for help in obtaining a new flag and instructions on how to correctly dispose of the damaged flag. All 30 members of Johnson's School Safety Patrol were reminded of the flag etiquette.
