Campaign 2008

-Chambliss rally set for Calhoun Saturday: U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss will be joined by fellow Republicans Sen. Johnny Isakson and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle for a runoff rally set for 2 to 4 p.m. at Circle R Farms, 832 Old Rome Dalton Road. The event is free and open to all, and is sponsored by the Gordon County Republican Party. Chambliss will be in friendly territory: he received 65 percent of the vote in Gordon County on Nov. 4. Chambliss and Democratic contender Jim Martin meet in the runoff on Dec. 2.

-'Rally for Saxby' set for Nov. 22: U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey and the Floyd County Republican Party are sponsoring a "Rally for Saxby" at the Etowah Senior Citizens Building, 1325 Kingston Road. Breakfast: $10. Absentee ballot request forms and Chambliss signs will be available> Floyd GOP

-Advance voting for U.S. Senate runoff is Nov. 24-26: Advance voting for the runoff is set for Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 24-26, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at:

*Floyd County Administrative Building, 12 E. Fourth Ave., Community Room.
 *Rome Civic Center, 400 Civic Center Drive

Requests for Absentee Ballots by mail must be made by Wednesday, Nov. 26. The runoff is Tuesday, Dec. 2, with precincts open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Commissioners Jennings Jerry Jennings improving after stent: County Commission Chairman Jerry Jennings is recovering at Redmond  Regional Medical Center after falling ill Tuesday prior to the commission's regular meeting. Friends on Tuesday night said Jennings suffered a heart attack and was given a stent to clear blockage. Jennings also is a professor at Berry College > Jennings

-Magnolia Market adds Monday hours: The meat shop, which has added produce and milk in recent weeks. is now open on Mondays. Hours: 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday with the exception of a 7 p.m. closing time on Fridays. The shop is at 1409 Kingston Highway.

-Executive Round Table (ERT) Dan Cathy of Chick-fil-A to speak at Berry's Executive Round Table dinner Feb. 9: Berry College's Spring Executive Round Table Dinner will feature Dan Cathy, president and chief operating officer of Chick-fil-A Inc. The fall round table dinner featured Maureen Schumacher, a senior sales executive with Google.
