Local election round-up

Though unofficial until Friday's final count of military and provisional ballots. here are the winners from Tuesday's local elections. Around 200 ballots are still to be reviewed but that's not enough to change any of the below races. Floyd County saw 34,335 votes cast in all, 73.21 percent of the county's 46,897 registered voters:

How Floyd voted in other races (click Totals )

-John McCain took more than 67% of Floyd's votes; Barack Obama, 31.1%

-Nearly 60% went with Saxby Chambliss; 37% for Jim Martin.

-PSC: Incumbent Doug Everett took 77% of Floyd's vote

-PSC: Bubba McDonald took almost 56% of the local vote

-House District 11: Phil Gingrey won 68.6% of the local vote.

-Rep. Barbara Massey Reece picked up 54.2% of Floyd's votes.

-Rep. Katie Dempsey received nearly 51% of the votes to Bob Puckett's 49%

-Rep. Barry Loudermilk carried 74% of Floyd's vote.

-Bob Culver had a 55-45% lead over Rep. Rick  Crawford in Floyd.

-DA Leigh Patterson beat Dan Morgan 56-44%

-Tax Commissioner Kevin Payne received 61% of the votes.

-Irwin Bagwell took a 50.86-49.10% win over Commissioner Jerry Jennings.

-Brian Barcomb beat Floyd school board member Bryan Shealy 54.4-45.2%

-Mike Sheffield got 24% and Sara Doyle 23% in the court of appeals race.

-Jack Niedrach won the superior court judgeship 58.4-41.4%

-Amendment 1: Yes vote was 64%

-Amendment 2: No vote was 53%

-Amendment 3: Yes by nearly 60%

Business Update:

-Office Depot closing Shorter Avenue store: Look for Office Depot to close the store at 2112 Shorter Ave. by Dec. 13. Staffers say they learned the store would close soon; others say the date has been set for Dec. 13. Reports of possible closings have swirled in recent days. The news comes a day after Circuit City announced major closings in Georgia--but the Rome store will stay on> Update

Pepperell getting ready for huge game with Calhoun Friday night: Pepperell High's 7-AA play-in game Friday with the Calhoun Yellow Jackets is getting prime time treatment. Some updates for local fans:

-Game tickets are on sale at PHS and numerous outlets in Lindale

-Gates will open at 5 p.m. Friday.

-The Friday night pre-game show on 95.3 FM will originate from the broadcast van of South 107, parked in the end zone at Dragon Stadium. The South107 call-in show crew will join our broadcast team and preview all games in the area. This pre-game will be from 6 to 7 p.m.

-The 10 p.m.-midnight South 107 call-in show will be "live" from the end zone
