Thursday's Buzz

>Differing stories on what's ahead for former Hyundai site: Planning commissioners next week are scheduled to hear a request to allow continued heavy commercial zoning at 844 Turner McCall Blvd. in order to permit what one leader calls a franchised auto paint/body shop. The site has"HC" zoning but with a stipulation it only be used for auto sales. HC zoning also is needed for a reported car wash similar to the one on Shorter that other officials say is planned there. Never mind that there's a car wash around the corner. The zoning board of appeals OK'd a request "for redevelopment for auto paint and body shop" on the site. See item "G" after clicking Board. See item "E"  on the file  Agenda

--Bottom line: No matter which concept is floated, watch for critical feedback from the community, especially in light of the mini-renewal under way along Turner McCall with the DLS Financial Center, Verizon and RiverWalk.
