Dining/restaurant updates

Etowah cookin' again; Ole Tymer's, El Toro almost ready

-By Natalie Simms/The Etowah Restaurant in Armuchee has reopened under new owner Kristen Funk. "Business has been going real well," she says. "We have a lot of business for breakfast and lunch…we're pretty excited about it." The restaurant, at 3766 Martha Berry Blvd., is open seven days a week, with hours Monday-Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Thursday-Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu includes homemade breakfast items and a $6.95 all-inclusive plate with meat, two veggies, bread and drink. Sunday features a brunch menu. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 7-11 p.m., it becomes The Etowah Steakhouse, serving hand-cut steaks, potatoes and salad bar. "If our customers want to bring their own bottle of wine, they can do that on Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening," she says. "It's like the old DiPrima's." Details: 706-378-8777.

-Ole Tymer barbecue almost ready on Martha Berry, too: The sign in front of the former Owen's Barbecue on Tuesday said the Armuchee site will open this month. Ole Tymer also is on Broad Street near Five Points in downtown Rome.

-El Toro Tex-Mex Grille just about open on Shorter Avenue: The former West Rome Pizza Hut (photo, right) is almost converted and the sign was going up late Tuesday evening.

East Rome gas prices 30 cents higher than Chattooga's Wal-Mart:

Prices Floyd:  $2.50 Bartow:  $2.40 Chattooga: $2.33 Gordon: $2.44

Polk:  $2.53

-What a difference 25 miles makes. On Tuesday afternoon, the price of a gallon of unleaded at the Murphy Oil pumps in front of the Wal-Mart in Trion was $2.33. A station down the highway was charging $2.30 a gallon. The Murphy pumps at the East Rome Wal-Mart read $2.63 some 30 minutes after we stopped to fill-up in Trion. Prices in Cartersville also are considerably lower than their counterparts in Floyd.
