Optimist Club, Greater Rome Bank honor Shorter's championship men's basketball team

Media release: During the Noon Optimist Club of Rome's meeting at State Mutual Stadium on Monday, the Noon Optimist Club of Rome and Greater Rome Bank honored the Shorter University men's basketball team for its 2013 NCCAA National Championship win.

            As part of the program, the team was recognized for a season of outstanding work, which led to conquering the national title in Indiana in March 2013. Assistant Coaches Tyler Murray and Tyler Watkins addressed the crowd with highlights of the season. Additionally, Coach Murray shared the coaching staff's mission of creating champions on and off of the court. Senior Assistant Athletic Director Matt Green showcased the many successes of Shorter University's athletic programs. The 2013 men's basketball national title marked Shorter University's tenth national title since 2007.

            Greater Rome Bank presented Coach Murray, Coach Watkins, Coach Warner and Mr. Green with a monetary donation of $250 for the men's basketball program. GRB President and CEO David Lance said, "Greater Rome Bank is very proud of the Shorter University men's basketball team's accomplishments. This group of young men and coaches has proven their hard work and dedication on the court, and I am confident each will continue to succeed in life."
