Feb. 8: Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy and Georgia Northwestern Technical College host SkillsUSA Competition

Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy and Georgia Northwestern Technical College host SkillsUSA Competition
 

The Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy and Georgia Northwestern Technical College will host the SkillsUSA Region Competition on Friday, February 8, 2013.  The competition will begin at 9:00 a.m.  Results will be announced immediately following the last competition around 12:00 p.m.  The competition will take place in various classrooms at Georgia Northwestern Technical College's Floyd County Campus.  Please see attached schedule for classroom numbers.

SkillsUSA is a national organization serving high school and college students and professional members enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled, and service occupations, including health occupations in high schools and technical colleges.

Students compete in areas including Advertising and Design, Architectural Drafting, Automotive Refinishing and Service Technology, Cabinet Making, Carpentry, Collision Repair Technology, Computer Maintenance Technology, Cosmetology, Engine Builder Team, Esthetics, Extemporaneous Speaking, First Aid/CPR, Graphic Communications, Job Interviews, Job Skill Demonstration, Masonry, Open and Closing Ceremonies, Pin Design, Plumbing, Power Equipment Technology, Prepared Speech, Preschool Teaching Assistant, Quiz Bowl, Residential Wiring, T-Shirt Design, Team Works, Technical Drafting, and Welding.

Each area of competition will be judged on a unique set of criteria specific to the topic. The panel of judges consists of College and Career Academy teachers and Georgia Northwestern Technical College instructors.

Winners of the Region 1 competition will go on to compete at the state level in March.
