(Media Release) Kevin Payne, Floyd County Tax Commissioner, would like to remind all taxpayers that the 2012 property taxes must be paid by the end of day on Wednesday, February 13th to avoid a 10% late penalty and to avoid a lien being placed against the property and the property owner.
The 2012 property taxes were due on November 15th, 2012. To date, the Tax Commissioner's office has collected 94% of the $81 million dollars billed for City, County, and school property taxes. By law, a 10% penalty is added to the original amount of taxes due 90 days after the due date, which falls on February 14th. Additionally, any tax bill that remains unpaid after the 13th will have a lien filed against the property and the property owner.
The Tax Commissioner's office accepts checks, cash, or credit cards in the office in the historic Floyd County courthouse on 5th Avenue, or bills can be paid online at www.floydcountytax.com. Office hours are 8am – 5pm. The Tax Office will accept letters postmarked by February 13th. But anyone that pays after the February 13th will have the penalty added as well as the lien cancellation charge. Partial payments are always accepted and encouraged, but they do not stop the late charges from being added. For any questions, please call the tax office at 706-291-5148 or Mr. Payne can be emailed at paynek@floydcountyga.org. Payoff amounts can be attained at the website by visiting www.floydcountytax.com
