Reed Edwards' family donates $5,000 to the Exchange Club Family Resource Center

Media release: Longtime local business man Reed Edwards was honored at an Exchange Club of Rome meeting on August 10, 2012: his family proudly made a $5,000 donation in his honor to the Exchange Club Family Resource Center.

"Over the past year, he has been a courageous and spirited example of how to live with rather than die from cancer," says Reed's son, Scott Edwards. "We can think of no better way to honor him than to request the gift be used for direct program services and/or operating expenses for the benefit of the families served by the Family Resource Center."

Reed Edwards was the owner of Skinny Reed's Home Center for over 35 years. His commitment to our community was evident with his involvement and leadership in organizations like the Exchange Club of Rome, Three Rivers Singers, First United Methodist Church and Power Squadron. "Reed will never be forgotten," says FRC Board Chairman Jason Sanker. "When we think of Reed, we will remember his generosity, his integrity, his devotion to his family and to his Christian faith," says Sanker.

"I don't think there was a dry eye in the room when Reed's family made their presentation," Exchange Club President Gail Johnson explains. "When Chase Edwards (Reed's grandson) led us in the pledge, we all teared up," says Johnson. Skinny smiled as he was honored by his family and friends with a standing ovation. The timing was truly a blessing for honoring and focusing on serving others; Reed died peacefully at home 3 days later on August 13.
