Governor Deal appoints Whitfield's Yarbrough to TCSG Board

Media release: Joe W. Yarbrough, Whitfield County, has been appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to serve as a member of the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia.  Yarbrough has been a member of Georgia Northwestern Technical College Board of Directors since August 2011.

 

Yarbrough is a senior vice president with Mohawk Industries, Inc. and has been in the flooring industry in various capacities for more than 42 years. He currently serves on the boards of directors for RossWoods Adult Day Services; Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership, Water, Light and Sinking Fund Commission; Georgia Northwestern Technical College; Christian Heritage School Endowment Foundation Board; and the Carpet America Recovery Effort. Additionally, he is on the board of directors for the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce, where he is past chairman and he currently serves as chairman of the Carpet and Rug Institute Strategic Issues Leadership Council. Yarbrough earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University. He and his wife, Nanette, have five adult children and eight grandchildren. They reside in Dalton.

 

"Joe truly understands the value of technical education at the community level and will be a great asset to the TCSG board," said Dr. Craig McDaniel, President of Georgia Northwestern Technical College.  "He has been a catalyst for Georgia Northwestern's growth in northwest Georgia."

 

Members of the Technical College System of Georgia board are appointed by the Governor to oversee the standards, regulations and policies for the operation of the system's 25 technical colleges.  The board also provides oversight for the state's Office of Adult Education, which provides literacy and GED services; and Quick Start, which is Georgia's workforce training program.
