Positive June home sales indicate strong summer ahead for local realtors

Home sales in June were up more than $1 million in volume over a year ago in Floyd County, giving local realtors much encouragement for a busy summer season ahead. Home sales for June 2011 had a total dollar volume of $9,250,071 with 72 homes sold with an average price of $128,473, according to figures released by the Greater Rome Board of Realtors. This is up over June 2010 sales which had a total dollar volume of $8,178,757 with 66 homes sold with an average price $123,920.

"It is better than last June and then we were trying to close homes that were taking advantage of the tax incentive. So we are looking forward to a great July," says Debbie Hayes, president of GRBOR. "There are great buys in homes and incredible interest rates ranging from 4.3 to 4.5 fixed rate. A lot of first time home buyers and other buyers who need a larger home are taking advantage of the home buys."

Floyd Medical Center making way for possible future growth...

Crews work at the site of the former offices of Harbin Clinic Medical Oncology, 318 West Fifth St., and Harbin Clinic Radiation Oncology, 321 W. Fifth St. (Below).

Demolition continues along West Fifth Street behind Floyd Medical Center at the site of the former Harbin Clinic Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology buildings. The hospital purchased the properties earlier this year. Hospital officials say they have no specific plans for the property at the present time. The Harbin Clinic offices moved into the new Tony E. Warren, M.D. Cancer Center in April.
