Barron Stadium renovations ready in August, Northwest GA Credit Union now "open" to community, Registration open for Clocktower 5K, Federal funds for Floyd County storms, Arey on Sports

 

Barron Stadium renovations should be complete by next month

Construction crews work on new concession stand at Barron Stadium. The new track (below) is mostly complete.

Renovations to Barron Stadium are on schedule and should be ready for community use by late August, according to Sammy Rich, assistant city manager. "Things are going well. There is a flurry of activity with 3 buildings going up...new concession stand, new restrooms and storage building for Parks and Rec," he says. There will also be a new ticket booth and pedestrian plaza. The final phase of the project will be renovations to the RFPRA's Fitness Center.

Northwest Georgia Credit Union now "open" to community

NWGACU has been granted a Residential Common Bond by the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance. "We are thrilled because this makes membership to NWGACU more readily available than ever before," says Michelle Stricklin, president and CEO. Registration now open for Gary Tillman Memorial Clocktower 5K Road Race and Health Walk

The 26th annual run through Downtown Rome returns on August 20th with an anticipated 700-plus participants. Registration for the 5K and 2-mile health walk is now online at www.active.com. "We are moving the headquarters to Heritage Park instead of Barron Stadium, but the course is the same," says Gail Johnson, race coordinator. "We have new t-shirts, chip timing. and lots of changes." Deadline for early registration is August 10th. The event, which was renamed six years ago in memory of Gary Tillman, a Rome businessman and avid runner, benefits the Exchange Club Family Resource Center. More information will be available soon at www.tillmanclocktowerrace.org.

Over $478,000 in federal funds have been approved for Floyd County residents affected by the April 27th storms.
