Christmas spirit sweeps downtown Rome
-More than 100 vans, floats, semis, bands, youth groups and even a 107-year-old woman from Roman Court infused a dose of Christmas spirit into downtown Rome Thursday evening. It started at First and Broad and ended nearly 80 minutes later as Santa Claus hit the lights on the big tree in front of City Hall. Along the way, 20,000-plus fans saw some of the most creative float displays in recent memories, capturing the "green" recycling theme adopted by parade organizers this year. Also well done: The first parade party by the DeSoto foundation, a fund-raiser to help with ongoing restoration efforts of the classic theater.
