-For the first time in more than a year, the jobless rate in Floyd County dropped out of double-digits--barely. The The Georgia Department of Labor reports the Rome/Floyd jobless rate in October was 9.9 percent vs. 10.2 percent in September and 10.7 percent in October 2009.

Shorter University will officially break ground on its library expansion on Friday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. The expansion will create an additional 18,000 square feet of library space that will feature a two-story cathedral atrium, a fireplace, soft seating and study areas. Shorter
