-For years, Hubert Smith's officers at the Rome Police Department have helped keep watch of the 20,000-plus attending the downtown Christmas parade. On Nov. 30, the retired police chief will lead the event from Broad and First Avenue to the big tree in front of City Hall. Smith was named grand marshal during this morning parade breakfast held at Coosa Country Club. Larry Atwell, parade committee, says Smith has "been a friend to all", noting his dedication to the Boys and Girls Club, and was immediate choice when his name came up.
