Arby's, once stellar performers, closed; corporate cites financial woes:

-The Arby's locations 805 Martha Berry Blvd. and 2885 Martha Berry Highway in Rome, and 1301 Nathan Dean Parkway remain closed today. Cathie Koch, a spokeswoman with Arby's Atlanta office, says the owner either is in bankruptcy or that such a move is coming. It will take several weeks to sort the situation out, she says. The state corporation's site lists PRP Inc. of Robertsdale, Ala., as the owner. Calls to PRP were not returned. The company owns other Arby's stores in the Southeast. The mall-area location has been listed as available on the LoopNet commercial real estate site as recently at last November. Click

-Local background: Developer Charles Ables and Don Evans formed the Avenue C Corp., which opened "their flagship store, located in downtown Rome ... (which) was listed in the Arby’s Inc. ‘Million Dollar Club’ from 1994" until recently. They added the Mount Berry Square store in 1999 and "this store’s sales have consistently been above the systemwide national Arby’s store sales average." A third store was added in 2007 (Rockmart) "before the company was sold in 2008." (Source: Ables Realty) Corrected
