Steak N Shake opening Sept. 22 -- and it will be a national first

Your wait for those shakes and steakburgers has been extended one week because of some equipment issues. But the good news is the opening day will be a famous first. -The store on Turner McCall will be the first in the nation to open with the new design. Several restaurants under construction will be completed after the Rome store opens with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. Sept. 22. Also:
-Corporate Steak N Shake executives will be on hand as will other franchisees.
-All 125 employees have been hired, says partner Wayne Robinson, and training continues. More than 4,000 people applied.

Cartersville's Clarenece Brown Conference Center's ribbon cutt is today:
-The first of two celebrations marking the opening of the Clarence Brown Conference Center is set for 11 this morning. A ribbon cutting will salute local governments who agreed on the $20 million SPLOST package. A public grand opening is Oct. 10. The center is off Ga. 20 across from Georgia Highlands' campus.
-Construction began in July 2009. Under roof: 44,000 square feet with a ballroom that can hold more than 1,400 guests, a banquet hall seating 300; a 300-person lecture hall; and an amphitheater. Details

-Yet another mixed report on state revenue collections: The good news: August was another good month in terms of net revenue collections for the state. The total was $1,185,849,000, up 12.7 percent from $1,052,466,000 for August 2009. For the fiscal year (July and August), collections are up 8.6 percent.
