Thursday updates from www.hometownheadlines.com

Talk of the town: 'The Boulevard,' 12th & Maple redevelopment

Topic A: If nothing else, the developers of The Boulevard at State Mutual Stadium and planners proposing a remake of key areas off 12th Street and Maple Avenue have done one thing: provide conversation topics beyond the economy and stimulus package(s). But that detour doesn't last long as the first question that pops up about the Yancey/Kibler/Bogle Boulevard concept is: Who are the deep-pocketed, creditor-safe, stable anchor retailers projected to fill the big stores as well as the restaurants and shops? And the next question: Which hotel chain is interested, given the three new players just opening on U.S. 411? Another nail salon and cell phone store won't cut it, observers say. All that said, there is optimism about the mixed retail center that would surround the home of the Braves> Project site: Boulevard

Topic B: The southwest Rome redevelopment project, spotted along and off parts of Maple Avenue and 12th Street, will get a closer look, especially if federal funds are available to make much of it happen.(Official release follows)

(From a media release) The East Rome Redevelopment Plan area rendering that was discussed by Rome's Community Development committee Wednesday morning. The  comprehensive redevelopment plan is still in draft form, according to a city release. City staff and the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority staff are reviewing the document and will discuss with the planning department before a complete draft is available for public comment.  The document should be ready around mid-April and will be available on the city's web site. For more, please contact Ron Sitterding, Community Development at 706-236-4474 or 706-252-4154, or e-mail: rsitterding@romega.us
