Friday's Hometownheadlines.com

Business updates:

-El Alazan site rezoning tabled: The El Alazan Mexican restaurant at 233 Wax Road just off Ga. 101 remains in full swing even as zoning around the popular Silver Creek spot is studied for potential changes. Lamar Ashley had sought to have the planning commission rezone the tract from suburban residential to community commercial. The hearing was set for Thursday but the bid was withdrawn. The site has been home to three or four restaurants in about that many years, including Betty's, then a barbecue spot and finally El Alazan. There is word a small, discount retailer might join the site.

-Land near new hotels on the market: As we await the completion of the LaQuinta near the just-opened Comfort Suites and Hampton Inn, a new sign on the property is advertising the sale of one to 19 or more surrounding acres. At one time, there was a balloon floated about some of that property being developed for a fourth hotel, a full-service Marriott. Click JDH

-Former T-Bones site sold: The original T-Bones on Martha Berry Highway has been sold. We've got calls into the Realtor for an update. It has been home to several restaurants, including a second Rome El Zapare and then T Bones. The steak restaurant's second location, in Adairsville, recently closed.

-The rumor that will not die: If rumors alone could make something happen, then Armuchee would have a Wal-Mart by now. Those reports continue to be shot down but there is a new spin to future development in the area. We hope to hear more from the reported "interested company" this morning.

New, expanded focus for Rome Kares: Created to assist refugees from Hurricane Katrina, Rome Kares is reorganizing to become a Voluntary Organization Assisting in Disasters. Dr. Ken McKenzie, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church and president of Rome Kares, Inc. says the reorganization will better serve the community and other areas affected by a disaster.
