There's been no slowdown in turnout for early voting in the Nov. 4 general election. Bartow, Floyd, Gordon and Polk all are reporting more than 10 percent of registered voters as having already cast ballots in the election. That pace will increase next week during "advance" voting which usually features additional polling spots and/or extended voting hours. (For a Georgia perspective, click State)

>Gordon County advance voting: Elections chief Shea Hicks reminds voters to bring one of six forms of photo ID as required by state law.  The elections office is in the Gordon County Annex Building, 101 S. Piedmont Street, Calhoun. Voters will have to go through the security screening process at the door of the Annex Building

-Anyone can vote absentee between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays through . Friday. You can vote in the elections office at 12 E. Fourth Ave. or in the commissioners' caucus room on the second floor> Vote

Henderson named Floyd schools' top teacher:

Suzie Henderson, a speech language pathologist at Pepperell Elementary, has been selected as the 2009 Floyd County Schools Teacher of the Year.  "My kids just call me the speech teacher," Henderson said as she learned of the honor.  Henderson works with students who have developmental difficulties in speech and language.  She has taught for 11 years and has spent the last ten at Pepperell Elementary.  Henderson received the honor at the October meeting of the Board of Education> Details

-Freedom Flight Center leaders say they plan to begin accepting students in two to three weeks at the center's office at Russell: Partner David Wright says, "We are going to need people to fly them but we'll also need folks to fix them and teach them.
