Election day a week away but lots happening before--and after:
-Let's start 13 days after . . . : A House Republican e-mail leaked to the media Monday tells of the pending vote for speaker and other officers on Nov. 10. In a House race where support for Glenn Richardson could be a key issue--as it was in the primary in Bartow County and is here now with Dempsey-Puckett--that's information some probably wanted kept below radar. Richardson's name has been on the sidelines. The question for House candidates: Who will you support for speaker on Nov. 10: Richardson, Blue Ridge's David Ralston or DuBose Porter?
-. . . and drop back one day . . . : Two items we posted in Monday's Buzz have started some buzz. The first is whether Jerry Jennings was given the correct date of his WRGA showdown with challenger Irwin Bagwell. Even the station isn't sure. The second item: the pedigree of Jason Lewis' political affiliation. Despite what's on his Facebook account (re: supporting GOP nominees), Lewis might be a recent convert (but remember party affiliations have no place in judicial races, right?)
-. . . and the next four days . . . : Advance voting is proving to be more popular than "early voting" --and more than 9,000 had voted here as of last Friday. One "Friend of the Site" says it took him 45 minutes to vote Monday afternoon at the Civic Center and most of that time was spent in line. And, once done, the line waiting to get in was even longer, he says. The elections office is urging early voters to do so at the civic center because of parking. Advance voting continues daily, 8 a.m.-7 p.m., through Friday. The other option: The Floyd County Administrative Building, 12 E. Fourth Ave., second floor, Commissioner's Caucus Room> Floyd
- . . . and finally a week from day: Precincts will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Anyone in line at 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote Nov. 4.
-Sample ballots online: You can preview the ballot for your community online at the Floyd County Web site. The ballots are broken into state House districts:

Campaign finance reports:
-Burkhalter contribution total at $68,056: The latest campaign contribution report for incumbent Democratic Sheriff Tim Burkhalter shows he'd collected $68,056 in contributions through Oct. 25, spent $52,551 in his showdown with Republican Steve Hulsey; and had $15,506 in the bank> Burkhalter
-We'll have additional finance reports this week.
