T-minus four weeks to Election Day

Voter registration is closed for what looks like one of the biggest election days in recent history. From tonight's presidential debate to local campaign finance reports to meetings and more, Campaign 2008 is sizzling. The latest updates:

-Absentee voting continues at a brisk pace: The latest numbers from Bartow County show exactly that. On Monday, nearly 400 people voted. boosting the total to 2,884 four weeks before the traditional election day. Lines were reported at the Floyd elections office as well. Both parties are urging members to vote early.

-Debate No. 2 between McCain, Obama: All major networks, cable

-Debate Watch set for tonight: The Floyd County Republican Party is organizing a presidential debate watch starting at 8 tonight at Schroeder's New Deli, 3170 Martha Berry Highway. The debate starts at 9 p.m. for more, Mike Morton at mikeofrome@yahoo.com or call 706-346-3400.

-Floyd County Republican Women have a "get acquainted social" today at 11:30 a.m. at GOP Headquarters, 519 Broad St. A light lunch will be provided.

-Democratic blog talker McLaughlin's big chance is at 2 p.m. Wednesday: Rome's David McLaughlin gets his test in the 'Battle of the Blog Talkers' at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Should "voters" like his five-minute take, he'll be asked back Friday for another round. A win there could mean a week-long shot talking politics for McLaughlin, who created "Kudzu Vine" on BlogTalkRadio in April 2007> Blog
