-Synovus, parent company of Citizens First, reports $26.9 million quarterly loss: Synovus reported a net loss for the third quarter of 2008 of $26.9 million, or 8 cents a share, compared to income from continuing operations of $83.6 million, or 25 cents per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2007. A key factor was described as "credit issues" as well as "the weakening economy." > Synovus
-SunTrust Banks posts net income of $307 million: SunTrust Inc. reports net income of $307.3 million for the third quarter compared to $412.6 million in the third quarter of 2007. Owens was praised for his work at Gordon Hospital and later at Floyd Medical Center, where he is now director of emergency medical services.

Georgia Power seeking suspects in cooper thefts: Georgia Power is offering $500 for information leading to the conviction of individuals involved in the theft of copper from the company. Thefts from substations, utility poles and lines. These thefts threaten the reliability of the electric system and cause safety concerns. Those who might have observed suspicious activity are asked to contact the company at 1-877-732-8717. If the theft is in progress, call 911 first (Media release)
