Chili cookoff heating up for Saturday:
This is the time of year when The K Man trades in his stylized K for a T--as in Tums. Ernie Studard, known as The K Man at Rome Braves' games, will be passing out Tums, not yellow-and-black Ks, on Saturday at the 13th Annual Trout Unlimited Chili Cook-off at Ridge Ferry Park. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. and judging begins at 2:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, and children 12 and under are $2. Says Studard, who's be in the Heritage Nissan booth: "We give out about 1,000 Tums in all flavors. We ran out last year." He's been handing out Tums for about five years now. "It is so funny. The first hour or two, people will walk by and just laugh. After that, I could sell them for a dollar a piece." Look for a sand box and extra seat in the Heritage booth this year, Studard adds.
