Wings Air could be in the air above Rome by the holidays: Citing excellent response from both business and government sectors, Wings Air President Robbie Rupard says he's hoping to have Rome-to-Atlanta air service by the holidays. Rupard and a team from the Lawrenceville-based carrier were at the air show earlier this month, talking with prospective customers about the service. Overall response--and excellent cooperation with area leaders--has Rupard reporting that "we are in Rome's future." The service plan is in the works and just a few hurdles remain before establishing service at Richard B. Russell Airport/Towers Field, he says. For more, click Wings Air
Dempsey-Puckett forum to broadcast at 7 tonight
Technical difficulties caused the scheduled Tuesday night forum between state Rep. Katie Dempsey, R-Rome, and Democratic challenger Bob Puckett to be delayed for 24 hours. The program is scheduled for broadcast at 7 tonight and again at 7 p.m. Thursday. It also will be posted at www.gpb.org/wgpb for access on demand starting Thursday morning. Said Bureau Chief John Sepulvado in a statement: "The debate aired for about a second and a half when the transmitter switched over to the satellite feed for unknown reasons. We thank everyone for their patience." The House District 13 candidates recorded the forum earlier Tuesday.

Politico, others quoting Gingrey, others on credit bailout questions: There were "a lot of skeptics in the room," says U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey following a meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney. "I don't think anybody in that room has made up their mind on how they are going to vote on this." For more, click Politico
>Gingrey's official take: "As our economy faces unprecedented economic challenges, it is crucial that we move cautiously toward a bipartisan solution to stabilize America's financial system. Americans rightly expect the Congress and the Administration to take great care when risking taxpayer dollars. All too often, when Congress tries to enact a 'quick fix,' it causes more harm than good. At the end of the day, we've got to make sure that if the federal government is going to spend $700 billion dollars of taxpayer money, then it better be the right plan it must restore public confidence in both government and the economy, and be well collateralized as a 'recourse loan.'"
