Tuesday's Buzz:
>Prickly Pear returning to Broad Street: "Opening soon" signs are hanging from the front and back of The Prickly Pear, 333 Broad St. The restaurant, under previous ownership, ran into problems with the city's Alcohol Control Commission. This will be The Pear's third incarnation since at least 2003 and the applicant for the already-granted beer, wine and liquor pouring permit is the most recent chef, Henry White. The business has most of the required city permits but still needs state approval on alcohol purchases.
>Make that Steak N Shakey? The third quarter financials posted for Steak N Shake continue cause concern among the local faithful over whether the premium burger-and-more restaurant will open here. One bit of ominous news, under steps taken to lessen the bleeding: "Limiting capital spending to maintenance - no new company store openings." It is assumed the Rome site at RiverWalk is a franchisee. Check the numbers> SNS
