Friday updates from www.hometownheadlines.com

Finally, a Publix rumor confirmed--in Cartersville

The six-week-old rumor of Publix leasing the Mathis Builders Hardware & Supply site on Shorter Avenue (and adjoining land) is getting new life. Brenda Reid, the premium grocer's media and marketing manager for Atlanta and much of the southeast, says she has no confirmation on any Rome sites. >But Reid does confirm a second store is coming to the Cartersville area in 2010. A 45,000-square-foot store--considered midsized by the Lakeland-based chain--is coming at Carters Grove Commons in the southwest corner of the community (click map). The 14-acre project is being done by Halpern Enterprises. The store and a cluster of other retail shops will service the Carters Grove Plantation community. The commons plans two sites next to the super market, 10,000 and 12,000 square feet. Also in the site plan: three out parcels facing Old Alabama Road. It will rise at the intersection with Douthit Ferry Road. A bid to put a new Walgreen's nearby is getting some heat, however.
