Media hot bed--Polk County, Ga: The big news in Polk County appears to be just that--the news. The Rome News' sister papers recently combined online to form the warped Fish Wrap; the "hot wired" folks have a new online venture there; our Polk Headlines continues to grow; WGAA is holding its own; and more ideas are swirling. Not bad for a community of 41,460 (up 8.6 percent since 2000) . . .
Media put to bed?: Realtors tell us the new real estate thing from the Rome News is on thin ice, perhaps following Rometown Hometown Headlines into oblivion . . .
Put that rumor on ice (cream): We know who's not filling that ice cream slot at RiverWalk: Cold Stone Creamery. Writes Anne Christenson: "It doesn't seem we have any immediate plans to open ... in Rome, Ga." But who is moving in next to Shane's Rib Shack?: Sundae's Sweet Shop and in several weeks . . .
On the way out--AJC Managing Editor Hank Klibanoff: A Pulitzer Prize winner and Berry College visitor, Klibanoff co-authored "The Race Beat: The Press, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Awakening of a Nation." Klibanoff, who gets high marks from colleagues, leaves July 5 . . .
On the way back--Steve & Vicki: For six months, the "soccer mom audience" has been without the popular Star 94 morning duo. They're back starting Tuesday, reunited in the a.m. on B98.5 FM. Who's out: veterans Kelly & Alpha . . .
239-to-go launches with lunch, picnics in mind: Bistro 239 is launching a to-go menu, including picnic meals for events such as First Friday concerts, the Oak Hill movie series, perhaps even motorists stuck on Turner McCrawl? Details: Menu . . .
A brick at a time: This is a big time of year in Cave Spring with the classic Fourth of July parade, fishing day and other events. You can be part of it. The Cave Spring Downtown Development Authority is selling bricks for Phase 2 of the square's renovation. Details: 706-777-3382 . . .
Politics in the air: And we mean that when it comes to Bartow County. The very active GOP primary is getting hotter following Tuesday's forum on WBHF 1450 AM; an on-air showdown between House District 15 Republicans Fred Battles and Jeff Lewis on WYXC 1270 AM this Friday; a forum at the GOP HQ on Saturday; and another forum at party HQ on July 10. Four races are contested in the primary, all on the GOP ballot, too, and all decided July 15 . . .
Publix Report No. 1701: Yes, there's a new rumor and we hear it involves a site many of us drive past each day and never think twice about. We're pursuing . . .
