The May employment report from the state Labor Department brought another round of mixed news. The reports show:

>The jobless rate climbed in all but Chattooga County, which for two months had the highest unemployment rate in the state.

>Vs. last May, all five counties saw a jump in the percentage of people out of work.

>In Floyd County, the labor force grew (50,141) while those employed dropped.

>In Bartow County, both the labor force and number of people working dropped.

>Chattooga County saw more than 100 people leave the labor force.

>Gordon County saw a rise in the labor pool but just a few more without jobs.

>Polk County also saw a rise in the labor force but slight drop in those working.

>Another record state jobless report: The state's unemployment rate jumped to 5.8 percent in May, up from 5.3 percent in April.  The reason: layoffs in manufacturing and other industries pushed the total number of unemployed workers to 284,816 in May, the highest level ever recorded in Georgia.

Citizens First names Angie Lewis president, CEO:

Angie Lewis, a Rome native, has been named the chief executive of the Synovus member bank serving Floyd County. She replaces D Copeland who's next assignment has not been announced. Lewis leads Rome/Floyd's largest bank in terms of deposits and market share (as of last June 30). At that time, Citizens First reported deposits of nearly $243 million, or almost 18 percent of Floyd's $1.36 billion deposit base.> Business

>Sidebar: Wednesday's promotion of Lewis completes something of a sweep for two recent graduates of the Graduate School of Banking at LSU. Classmate Ryan Earnest recently was named president of Heritage First Bank.
