Cox gets OK to buy WRGA's sister stations in Athens; FCC scolds Coosa Valley News over protest: A story in today's Athens newspapers says the $60 million deal for the five Athens-area stations has been blessed by the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC did so after reviewing two challenges, including one from Thom Holt's Coosa Valley News. Says the paper:

"... Coosa Valley News objected to the Southern Broadcasting application by alleging that Paul Stone was an undisclosed agent for a permit application for a radio station in Plainville. The FCC scolded CVN in its rejection of the challenge, citing a lack of evidence and warning CVN not to misuse FCC procedure in a vendetta against a business competitor." Howard Toole, general manager of Stone's stations in Athens, won an FCC auction for the new Plainville FM signal. Holt and partners continue to challenge that award, citing Southern Broadcasting's ownership of WRGA, Q102, WSRM, WGJK and South 107 and dominance in this market.

Among those assets: The brewery near Cartersville, which employs around 600 people, and Metal Container Co. near Rome, which employs about 100 people. The InBev deal has received positive reaction from international financial concerns but also has sparked a "Save Budweiser" rallying cry from brand loyalists (click Save). InBev officials have said they would not close any U.S. breweries and would keep the company based in St. Louis.
