Etowah River Bacteria Levels for July 25 from CRBI

Media release: The Coosa River Basin Initiative is again this year collecting water quality data on the Etowah River in order to inform river user's about the health of the river. Weekly water samples are taken at three locations: US 411 near Kingston, the Rome Bypass at Grizzard Park and Second Avenue in Rome. Each sample is tested for e. coli bacteria and a composite bacteria level is derived from these samples.

The e. coli bacteria level for Thursday, July 25, on the Etowah River was 79.5 cfu/100ml. This is below the 126 cfu/100ml level that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers safe for recreational waters. Levels about 126 cfu/100ml would be considered unsafe for swimming and other water contact activities.

The levels for each specific location were as follows:

U.S. 411 Near Kingston: 50.4

Rome Bypass at Grizzard Park: 104.3

2nd Avenue in Rome: 95.9

CRBI will provide this data each Friday from now through September. The purpose of this program is to gauge the health of the Etowah River and help river user's make informed decisions about recreating in the river.
