(Media Release) The 2nd Annual Moving Day! A Walk for Parkinson's will take place on Saturday, October 27th from 9am - 1pm at State Mutual Stadium, Home of the Rome Braves. Moving Day is a fundraising and awareness walk benefiting the National Parkinson Foundation's Georgia Chapter (NPF/GA) based here in Rome. Programs and services provided by the chapter include patient and community education, support groups, wellness programs and advocacy opportunities.
The Moving Day! Walk committee is proud to announce that Kristin Poulsen has been named as the 1st Moving Day Rome Grand Marshall. Ms. Poulsen and her husband David Brown will help cut the starting ribbon and lead the walkers along the river trail surrounding State Mutual Stadium. Kristin is one of the co-founders of the Rome Parkinson's Support Group which eventually became National Parkinson Foundation's Georgia Chapter. Kristin has been active in all aspects of the chapter from its beginning serving as group facilitator, leading exercise and creativity classes and serving as a resource to everyone.
Ms. Poulsen is a former Special Education Teacher with the Rome City Schools. She retired a few years after her diagnosis with Parkinson's. James Trussell, Chief Volunteer Officer of NPF/GA states "Kris has been the heart and soul of our Rome Support Group since our beginning in September 2004. I cannot imagine taking this journey without her."
In honor of Ms. Poulsen's career as a teacher, NPF/GA is adding a new "Children's Costume Walk" that will take place during the Moving Day event at 10:30am. Children age 12 and under are encouraged to come to Moving Day dressed in their costumes for Halloween. There will be many activities designed especially for children. There is no charge to participate in the children's activities, although donations will be accepted. So bring your coins and dollars and help us find a cure for Parkinson's!
