Eugene Smith wins bus technician competition

(Media Release) Eugene Smith, service manager of Floyd County Schools Transportation Department, has won the 2012 Northwest Georgia RESA School Bus Technician Competition.  Smith finished second in last year's competition between area bus maintenance technicians.  By taking the top award this year, Smith has qualified for the state finals for the second year in a row.  This year's state competition to be held on June 25 at North Georgia Technical College in Clarksville, Georgia.

The Northwest Georgia RESA competition was held at Georgia Highlands College last week and included representatives from Bartow County Schools, Cartersville City Schools, Floyd County Schools and Paulding County Schools.  Bus service technicians in the competition were given a written test and they had to identify 10 working parts from a school bus that were displayed on a table.

At the state competition, the technicians will again be required to take a written test but they will also have to troubleshoot and correct a problem with a school bus. The winner of the state competition will compete in the national finals this summer.
