Phone: Luke Robert playing his banjo at the Music Showcase
Media release: Luke Robert, a senior at Model High School , won the 2nd Annual Kiwanis Music Showcase held on Saturday at Shorter University Rome Rome Carrolton , Georgia at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center
When asked about how he wrote the song he played for the judges, Robert said, "I was just playing around on my banjo a few weeks ago and just came up with the tune." He certainly impressed the judges with his song and his ability to play the banjo during the contest that displayed a wide array of area musical talent. Contestants played classics on violin and clarinet, sang show tunes from Broadway, played original compositions and played classic rock anthems during the showcase competition.
Robert was encouraged to apply for the scholarship contest by Jan Mendence,Model High School
The Rome Kiwanis Club is affiliated with Kiwanis International, a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child at a time. Locally, the Kiwanis club serves the children and youth of the community, Georgia and the world through a variety of service projects. The group sponsors high school key clubs at Model High, Rome High and Pepperell High to encourage service to the community at the high school level. The Kiwanis also holds an Art Showcase each year in late March or early April to promote the visual arts.
