2011 Frist Humanitarian Award Recipients Announced

(Media Release) Dr. Gerald McCormick, Chaplain Billy Murdock, and Volunteer Marie Carlisle were recently awarded Redmond Regional Medical Center's 2011 Frist Humanitarian Award.  McCormick, Murdock and Carlisle will now be entered into the nationwide 2011 Frist Humanitarian Award, the highest honor an employee, physician, and volunteer can receive at HCA, the parent company of Redmond Regional Medical Center.

The Frist Humanitarian awards were created to recognize one employee, one physician and one volunteer at each HCA-affiliated facility who demonstrate extraordinary concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and their community.  The Frist Humanitarian Awards are given annually in recognition of the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., a founder of HCA.  National recipients will be honored in the spring at a reception at the company's Nashville, Tenn., headquarters.

Dr. McCormick was recognized for his work in oncology and the difference he has made in so many of Redmond's patients' lives. Outside of the hospital, Dr. McCormick volunteers his time educating the community, volunteering at the Free Clinic and providing free physicals to children so they attend the National Youth Sports Camp.

Chaplain Murdock serves the patients, family members and staff at Redmond.  He was recognized for his unending availability to those he serves as well as his inspirational personality.  Outside of the hospital, Chaplain Murdock spends vacation time doing Mission work in areas such as Haiti, the Philippines, Guatemala, Argentina and Africa.

Mrs. Carlisle is a former high school teacher who volunteers at the Information desk at Redmond on Mondays and Wednesdays.  She fills the rest of her time volunteering at her church, Westminster Presbyterian, as a certified Red Cross volunteer, a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and volunteering with the food pantry run by Garden Lakes Baptist Church.

"Dr. McCormick, Chaplain Murdock and Mrs. Carlisle exemplify the spirit of service Dr. Frist demonstrated in his life and instilled in this company.  That spirit is alive and well at Redmond where we're proud to recognize these outstanding individuals.  They represent well the team of professionals, physicians, employees and volunteers, who work together every day to serve our patients," said John Quinlivan, CEO of Redmond Regional Medical Center.

"I am very proud to present these awards," said Richard M. Bracken., HCA CEO.  Dr. Gerald McCormick, Billy Murdock and Marie Carlisle are an inspiration to all our employees and volunteers.  Their generosity and dedication serve as a living example of HCA's commitment to the care and improvement of human life."
