Media release: Berry College hosted the Spring 2012 6th h-grade Berry
College Mathematics Contest on Thursday, February 9.
Of the 15 sixth-grade teams that competed at the event, the top three teams
were: 1st - Pickens County Middle School, 2nd - Armuchee Middle School, and
3rd - Heritage Middle School. Top individuals student winners were: Ryan
Harris (Heritage) - 1st, Reid Blackmon (St. Mary's) - 2nd, and Chase Garland
(Pickens County) - 3rd.
Participating schools included: Armuchee Middle School (Floyd County), Berry
College Elementary & Middle School (Rome), Coosa Middle School (Floyd
County), Dade Middle School (Dade County), Elm Street Elementary School
(Rome), Fort Payne Middle School (Fort Payne), Gilmer Middle School (Gilmer
County), Heritage Middle School (Catoosa County), Jasper Middle School
(Pickens County), LaFayette Middle School (Walker County), Main Elementary
School (Rome), Pepperell Middle School (Floyd County), Pickens County Middle
School (Pickens County), St. Mary's School (Rome), and Sonoraville Middle
School (Gordon County).
Berry College hosts the competition to promote and encourage mathematical
excellence. Several Berry students and mathematics faculty worked with the
event. Dr. Martha Tapia, Associate Professor of Mathematics Education, is
the faculty supervisor for the event.
