Media release: Magnolia Foundation and Eagle Rock Distributors will present
Magnolia Stroll in downtown Rome on Thursday, December 15. Patrons will be
able to sample the signature dishes of Broad Street with pairings of beer
and wine.
Participating restaurants are 333 on Broad, 400 Block Bar, Harvest Moon
Cafe, Jefferson's, Johnny's New York Style Pizza, Old Havana City Club with
Meals on Wheels, and Schroeder's New Deli. A select pairing of beer and wine
with a signature food sample will be served at each location.
Tickets for the event are $15 and include a souvenir high-ball glass and
tastings at 7 locations. Tickets must be pre-purchased at the Rome - Floyd
Visitor Center located at 402 Civic Center Drive. The visitor center is open
Monday through Friday from 9:30am - 5:00pm and Saturday from 10am-3pm.
Tickets may be purchased by cash, check or Visa/MasterCard.
All proceeds benefit the Magnolia Foundation, a non-profit organization
under the Northwest Georgia Cancer Coalition, that seeks to provide
colonoscopies for high-risk, under-served and uninsured men and women, raise
awareness of colon and colorectal cancer, and be an advocate for coverage of
colonoscopy testing through insurance.
2011 estimates show that 141,210 new cases of colon and rectal cancer will
occur in the United States, and 49,380 people will die from colorectal
cancer.
"Early diagnosis of colon and colorectal cancer is directly linked to better
survival rates, but only 41% of colorectal cancers are diagnosed early,"
said Lisa Smith, founder of the Magnolia Foundation.
In two years Magnolia Foundation has provided over 100 colonoscopies to
high-risk, uninsured patients in Floyd, Chattooga and Polk counties.
"This tasting is a great opportunity to get downtown and sample many
different restaurants while helping members of our community with an
essential medical screening," said Smith.
