3,000 college students heading back to Rome. Harbin dialysis has something cooking. Jobs: 75 new ones on the way; career fairs, too.

-Nearly 3,000 Berry, Shorter students return town, classes:

-Notice any increase in traffic? Larger crowds at some of the more popular haunts? The 2010-11 academic year begins Monday for students at Shorter and Berry

-Freshmen arrived Saturday at Shorter with Camp Hawk held this week; residence halls open this Saturday for returning students.

-Shorter students will get used to a new name--university, not college--and perhaps a new president. Harold Newman has announced his retirement.

-At Berry, Viking Venture, ice cream socials and other events are welcoming students. Some major campus construction projects have been finished since spring, including Kilpatrick Commons (right).

Harbin's Dialysis Center is one of 19 facilities competing for a chance to win a cooking workshop with celebrity chef Oliver Hale for their patients. Details

The return of Laredo's? Look for news of a Laredo's Mexican Bar and Grille coming to Cartersville. Bids on the project are due on Monday. Laredo's, part of a regional chain, had a brief life at RiverWalk before giving way to Las Palmas.

-In Rome: Captain D's on Turner McCall reopens after remodeling.

-Syntec Industries adding 30 jobs as part of $7.5 million expansion. Details

-Coupled with FP Pigments' arrival and Southeastern Mills' expansion, 75 new jobs are coming to Greater Rome.
