-With nine weeks to go before the primary, Rome's Dr. John Barge gets a boost: With Kathy Cox leaving for a post in Washington, D.C., Dr. John Barge is now one of two Republicans in the GOP primary. His opponent July 20 is Richard Woods, who is scheduled to address Bartow Republicans this Saturday. The victor faces the winner of a three-way race on the Democratic ballot. Both Barge and Woods now have the two-term incumbent out of their race. Plus Gov. Sonny Perdue could appoint one or the other as Cox's replacement through the rest of this calendar year.
