Recession is something of a boom for Prime Outlets in Calhoun

By Natalie Simms/natsimms76@gmail.com

In an economic downturn with retail shops closing left and right, one bright spot of success is the Prime Outlets in Calhoun. With four new stores in 2009 and one already on the way this year, the economy isn't slowing growth.  "The outlet category has historically done well in a recession," says Janet Paulsen, General Manager. "We are seeing a new shopper, one that typically shopped full-price and now, because of the economy, is discovering our amazing offerings and savings on the designer and name-brand front. We experienced a terrific holiday shopping season with strong sales and traffic."

Prime Outlets has of 61 retail spaces comprising 253,667 square feet of total space, with 50 occupants and 11 vacancies, according to the site's map. "Prime Outlets features a comprehensive collection of 50 stores with leading designer and top name-brands such as Ann Taylor, COACH, GAP, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, among many more," Paulsen says.

In 2009, the outlets welcomed IZOD, Peace Frogs, Rak Outfitters and As Seen On TVRack Room Shoes is on the way and more could follow, Paulsen says..

"Today's savvy shoppers are looking for ways to stretch their dollars farther, without compromising buying from the brands they know and trust.  Shoppers can save up to 65 percent off regular retail prices at Prime Outlets – Calhoun every day."

One other change coming to the Prime Outlets is ownership. In December, Simon Property Group signed a definitive agreement to purchase the Prime Outlets.

Says Paulsen: "Shoppers will continue to enjoy the same great savings and values."
