Region's first Hilton Garden Inn opens soon in Cartersville: The Cartersville-Bartow Chamber of Commerce and the Bartow Employer Committee are teaming up for a seminar on developing "open communication" skills to assist business leaders make better decisions on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 8-11:45 a.m. at the new Hilton Garden Inn off East Main Street. It is the first of four seminars, now through April 22, focusing on "Adapting to the New Business Climate." All four seminars are set for the hotel site. >The second story line is the host site, the new Hilton Garden Inn, set to accept reservations as of Sept. 15. The hotel off Liberty Drive looks like a potential player for compact business meetings.
Rome City Commission, School Board qualifiers as of Monday evening:
-All seven incumbent school board members qualified; no challengers as of Monday evening. Qualifying were Faith Collins, Cheryl Huffman, Bruce Jones, Dale Swann, Judy Sims, Chris Wilson and Will Wood.
-In the Ward 2 City Commission race (three positions are on the ballot): Incumbents Jamie Doss and Duane Reid qualified as did challengers Jeff Brown, Sue Hamler Lee and Steven McDowell. McDowell ran for commission before.
-Candidates have until 4:30 p.m. Friday to qualify for the Nov. 3 election.
