Saturday updates

Weekend Buzz:

The forecast--sunny and warm with highs in the 80s, lows of 59!

-Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 89. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.
-Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 59. Northwest wind between 5 and 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Friday night's aftermath:

-Power being restored after storm outages to more than 5,000 customers:

Several areas were hard hit, including our home office. We're still without a modem and other issues (more on that below).

-At least 40 to 45 trees down; three are on homes.

-No injuries and no serious structural damage have been reported.

Weekend notes:

-Saturday's spaghetti dinner, raffle, auction to benefit Model school district: The Model and Johnson Schools Foundation will hold a Spaghetti Dinner, Raffle and Live Auction on Saturday at the Model Middle School.The cost of the Spaghetti Dinner is $5 per plate and includes: spaghetti with meat sauce, bread, salad with your choice of dressing, dessert and drink.  The dinner begins at 5 p.m. and continues until 6:30 in the school cafeteria. The live auction and raffle l begin at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium.  More than 100 items are up for auction/raffle.  Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 or $20. All proceeds go toward the enrichment of the four schools within the Model High School district.

-Also Saturday, "Meet the Tribe" BBQ at Armuchee High School from 5-7 p.m. Sponsored by the Touchdown Club, the community is invited to come meet the 2009 Football team and families. Tickets are $6.00.

-Today/CRBI's annual River Revelry/A Biodiversity Bash set> Buzz

-Today/Booth celebrates six years (10 a.m.-4 p.m.): Meet President and Mrs. Abraham Lincoln and other presidents played by historical re-enactors. At noon, the Booth unveils a 13- by 20-foot painting by the Atlanta artist Rossin featuring full length portraits of all the 20th century presidents. Children can participate in art activities offered throughout the building, and families can enjoy continuous entertainment in the Booth Theatre> Booth Museum.

-Berry to welcome one of largest first-year student classes on Monday. Berry's Office of Enrollment Management anticipates that the new class will consist of approximately 620 students – 570 freshmen and 50 transfers – representing 27 states and several foreign countries> Berry
