Massive mixed-use retail/residential/office complex off U.S. 411 up for review. F&P growing again. Rising COVID numbers a concern in Gordon. Rome High sees jump in cases. 2 more jail inmates test positive.

Today's first headlines:

  • Big plans for 173-acre Walker Ridge on U.S. 411 at Burnt Hickory Road west of the 41 interchange: 650,000 square feet of retail, multifamily, townhomes, offices, green space.  
  • Business: Another $23 million expansion from a Rome/Floyd existing industry as F & P Georgia plans to grow, add 15 jobs. 
  • Gordon County task force: As numbers increase, 'this is not the time to become complacent and lose the gains we have made.' Another Bartow death. New cases surge by 143 in NW Georgia.
  • COVID on campus: 8 new positive tests at Rome High, 2 at Elm Street. 62 students, 26 faculty/staff in quarantine.
  • Burkhalter: Two more Floyd County Jail inmates test positive, bring total to four in the past week. Additional inmates being tested.
  • Search continues in southern Floyd County for suspect in Sunday night shooting near Rockmart.
  • Voting: Presidential debate Thursday at 9 p.m. Eight precincts still up for 'adoption.' State nearing 2 million ballots cast so far.
