Exchange Club of Rome honored at district convention

Media release: The 88th Annual Georgia District Exchange Club Convention was held on June 6-8 in Albany, Georgia.  A group of Rome Exchange Club members attended and were proud to receive many distinguished awards.

 

Ed Smiley Exchange Club of the Year for Large Clubs:  This award is presented to a small and a large club having the highest number of points earned with Community Service Activities (Book of Golden Deeds, Service to Seniors, etc.), Americanism Activities (such as GIVEAKIDAFLAGTOWAVE, One Nation Under God Program, Proudly We Hail), and Youth Programs (such as A.C.E Award, Youth of the Year, and American Citizenship Speech Contest).  Exchange Club of Rome President Gail Johnson was proud to receive this award for the Rome Club.  "We worked hard all year long," says Johnson, "and it is great to be recognized by the District."

 

Ellie Royal Outstanding Club Treasurer:  This award is presented to a small and a large Club Treasurer who qualifies and meets the criteria set forth by the District.  Exchange Club of Rome Treasurer J.P. Cooper was this year's proud recipient of the Ellie Royal Outstanding Club Treasurer.

 

American Citizenship Speech Contest:  The Exchange Club of Rome held their annual speech contest earlier this year.  The winner was Bennett Garland of Armuchee High School.  He is the son of Richard and Gail Garland. Bennett represented the ECOR in Albany this past weekend and won the contest.  He was awarded a check of $1,500 from Georgia District Exchange.  "Bennett did an outstanding job," says Youth Programs Chair Dr. George Bosworth.  "He definitely made us proud," says Bosworth.

 

Ted Noe installed as Georgia District Exchange Club President :   Ted Noe, Past Rome Exchange Club President, was installed as the Georgia District Exchange Club President 2013-2014 in Albany this past weekend.   Jack Roberts, Georgia District Exchange Club President 2012-2013, passed the gavel on to Ted.  Ted was installed by National Exchange Club President Lou Molitor.

 

CAP Foundation Donation to Exchange Club FRC:  the Georgia Child Abuse Prevention Foundation raises funds all year long and especially during the District Convention.  These funds are distributed amongst the Child Abuse Prevention programs in Georgia.  The Exchange Club of Rome Family Resource Center received $2,500 from the Georgia CAP Foundation this year.

Exchange, America's Service Club, is a group of men and women working together to make our communities better places to live through programs of service in Americanism, Community Service, Youth Activities, and its national project, the Prevention of Child Abuse. The Exchange Club of Rome meets every Friday at noon at the Palladium on the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds.
