Special Olympics, Camp Good Times receive $6000 From Floyd Sheriff's Youth Initiative

Media Release- Once a year in the spring, you will find a large collection of law enforcement officers and all sorts of public safety personnel gathered in one place. They are there to participate in the Cops for Kids softball tournament, and while it's a lot of fun for those involved, it is also for a great cause!

"We do this for the kids." Said Sheriff Tim Burkhalter! "It's a great feeling knowing we are able to help them with the Special Olympics and Camp Good Times."

The funds raised from various fundraisers over the past year were recently awarded to Tammy Bryant, special populations' coordinator with Rome/Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority. According to Burkhalter, $5000 was earmarked for the Special Olympics and $1000 went to help fund Camp Good Times.

The Special Olympics are scheduled to kick off this Friday at Darlington School. While this Saturday, the fundraising begins once again as the Cops for Kids softball tournament swings into action at the Alto Park Recreation complex.
