May 3: Dr. Don Hattaway will be guest speaker at Shorter University's spring commencement

Media release: Dr. Don Hattaway, senior pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church
in Cartersville and vice chairman of the Shorter University Board of
Trustees, will be the featured speaker at Shorter University's spring
commencement exercises on Friday, May 3.

Approximately 550 students will graduate during the commencement exercises,
which will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 3, at State Mutual Stadium, 755
Braves Boulevard, Rome. In the event of rain, a decision will be made on
Thursday, May 2, regarding alternate plans. Check www.shorter.edu for
updates after that time.

As pastor at Tabernacle Baptist, Dr. Hattaway leads a congregation of more
than 3,000 members. His sermons are aired on a weekly television broadcast
titled "Real Peace Today" in various cities in Georgia, Florida, Alabama,
and Tennessee. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from
Brewton-Parker College and both the Master of Divinity and Doctor of
Ministry degrees from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Hattaway is a former vice president of the Georgia Baptist Convention
and has served as a parliamentarian for the GBC. He is currently vice
chairman of the Board of Trustees for Shorter University. He previously
served as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Brewton-Parker College and
for the Christian Index, the oldest Christian publication in America. In
addition to his pastoral responsibilities, he enjoys speaking at various
revivals, conferences, seminars and churches throughout the year. His
ministry seeks to encourage and teach Christians in their daily walk with
God and to lead others to experience saving faith in Jesus Christ.

Dr. Hattaway and his wife, Sonia, have three children: Nathan, 16; Daniel,
14; and Anna Lane, 12.
