Redmond Announces 2012 Frist Humanitarian Award Recipients

(Media Release) Redmond Regional Medical Center honored three individuals as the hospital's 2012 Frist Humanitarian Award Recipients:  Dr. P.J. McElhone, Physician Recipient; Lauren Lyle Employee Recipient; and Charles Carlisle, Volunteer Recipient.  The Frist Humanitarian Awards were created to recognize Redmond associates who demonstrate extraordinary concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and their community.  The Frist Humanitarian Awards are given annually in recognition of the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas Frist, Sr., a founder of HCA.  National recipients will be honored at a reception in the spring.

Dr. P.J. McElhone was recognized for being family focused, patient focused and community focused.  Dr. McElhone is an active volunteer in his church and for Saint Mary's School.  He also volunteers for Operation Smile (an organization providing free cleft palate surgery to patients around the world).  Dr. McElhone works to enhance his Spanish skills to better serve our Spanish speaking population, makes an effort to be well rested and alert to ensure he gives the best quality care, and daily demonstrates exemplary compassion for his patients.

A high energy person with excellent nursing skills, Lauren Lyle will soothe the stress of a patient and their family prior to surgery through her smile, quick wit and quiet prayer.  An avid bargain hunter, she is thrilled to find a sale in order to fill food boxes for the needy, a mission she helps organize through her church.  She frequently receives compliments from patients and their family members.

Redmond volunteer Charles Carlisle volunteers two days a week at Redmond and serves as Vice President of the Redmond Volunteer Auxiliary.  He is also very active at Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and on the Building and Grounds Committee.  Mr. Carlisle is a certified Red Cross Volunteer, a trained member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and volunteers with the Garden Lakes Church Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels.

"Redmond is committed to delivering quality patient care.  We are extremely proud to recognize Dr P.J. McElhone, Lauren Lyle, and Charles Carlisle for their efforts on behalf of our patients and our community," said John Quinlivan, CEO of Redmond.  "Their exemplary work and compassion sets a high standard for healthcare professionals.  We're proud to have them as a part of our Redmond family.  Our patients benefit from the kind of commitment to humanitarian concerns that Dr. McElhone, Lauren, and Charles demonstrate each day."
