Media release: The Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Confluence will welcome Earl Robinson from The Boeing Company's Moonshine Shops as a keynote presenter Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at the Historic DeSoto Theatre in downtown Rome.
"We are excited to include Boeing Moonshine Shop on the Confluence program," stated Doc Kibler, Chamber Chairman of the Board and Director for State Mutual Insurance Company. Boeing is the world's largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners and defense, space and security systems. A top U.S. exporter, the company supports airlines and U.S. and allied government customers in 150 countries.
Robinson, Manufacturing Operations Analyst for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, will discuss the Moonshine Shops during the closing keynote address of the Confluence event. This group of creative tinkerers helps the large, highly regulated, safety-critical company become fast and innovative. The Moonshine Shops routinely create savings equal to multiples of their own budget through front-line process innovation.
"Every large enterprise and regional manufacturer looking to jumpstart process improvements and inspire innovation within their organization should come hear about Boeing's Moonshine Shops," said Dr. John Grout, committee member and Dean of the Berry College Campbell School of Business. "I have been fascinated for years by the Moonshine Shops' ability to foster radical innovation within a highly regulated industry. I am delighted that they are coming to Rome, Georgia."
Previously announced speakers include Chris Anderson, former Editor-In-Chief of Wired Magazine and CEO of 3D Robotics, an open-source aerial robotics company. Anderson will be speaking on his new book, Makers: The New Industrial Revolution.
Ticket sales have been launched and can be purchased through the event website at RomeConfluence.com, where a full event agenda is also available.
"This is the must-attend event for every business owner, executive, technologist, entrepreneur and artist in the area," says Confluence Chair Tricia Steele Seifert, SAI Digital. "The conversations made possible by this arrangement of content and experiences will not be matched."
Event registration and sponsorships are both being offered through an innovative use of the crowdfunding platform, IndieGoGo.com.
"Crowdfunding has become an important new way for entrepreneurs and small businesses to raise capital, and it is encouraging customers to get involved in the development cycle for new products," said committee member and 7hills Makerspace co-founder Greg Richardson. "By utilizing a crowdfunding campaign for event ticketing and sponsor sales, the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce is leading by example and reinforcing the innovation theme of the event."
