FOR RELEASE EFFECTIVE: 12/5/2012
The 1st Annual Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell Run/Walk in Rome is coming up on December 15th. Register online at www.romejbrw.org or call (423) 341-4788. This holiday event is a great way to enjoy the holiday season while raising fund to the nation's leading cause of disability.
Arthritis is much more widespread than imagined, affecting 50 million adults and approximately 300,000 children across the nation. Here in Georgia there are 1.6 million adults and nearly 9,200 children with a doctor-diagnosed form of the disease.
Volunteer organizers anticipate more than 200 runners and walkers to participate at the Rome event this year, and they aim to raise $35,000. Leading the efforts are the 2012 Junior Honoree Jacey, an 8-year-old who has juvenile arthritis; Dr. Sidney Bell, the 2012 Medical Honoree, and Coach Bill Thornton, the 2012 Adult Honoree. "The prevalence of arthritis in our nation is surging, and we cannot ignore it," says Dr. Bell. "Events like the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis help bring the community together to raise awareness and funds that are critical to the advancement of research, health education and government advocacy."
As the nation's largest holiday run/walk event, the Arthritis Foundation's Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis offers a five kilometer timed fun run, a one-mile fun walk and a Santa Chase for kids age 2 to 5. Statistics show that walking for 30 minutes regularly can greatly reduce your risk for certain forms of arthritis. To find out more about the Rome event visit www.romejbrw.org or call (423) 341-4788.
