Harbin Clinic Nephrologist, Dr. Rashid Ishaque, recently authored a chapter in a new textbook, Clinical Decisions in Nephrology, Hypertension, and Kidney Transplantation

Media release: Harbin Clinic Nephrologist, Dr. Rashid Ishaque, recently authored a chapter in a new textbook, Clinical Decisions in Nephrology, Hypertension, and Kidney Transplantation.  The text book provides a state of the art, updated reference for superlative management of patients with diseases of the kidneys and hypertension. 

Dr. Ishaque authored the chapter "Chronic Kidney Disease: Definitions and General Approach."  The chapter consists of:

·         An introduction to Chronic Kidney Disease

·         Definitions related to Chronic Kidney Disease

·         Stages of Chronic Kidney Disease – along with a clinical action plan

·         Chronic Kidney Disease Screening and suggestions for intervals and management progression

·         Chronic Kidney Disease metabolic complications and treatment

·         Descriptions of different dialysis modalities

The chapter goes into great detail about diagnosing and treating Chronic Kidney Disease.  Chronic Kidney Disease may be caused by diabetes, high blood pressure and other disorders.  More than 26 million Americans have Chronic Kidney Disease and millions more are at risk.  Treatment options for Chronic Kidney Disease are peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, and transplants.

            Dr. Ishaque has also published two papers in renowned medical journals.  In 2008, Dr. Ishaque co-authored "Influence of Arterial Wave Reflection on Carotid Blood Pressure and Intima-Media Thickness in Older Endurance Trained Men and Women with Hypertension"  and in 2009, "Physical Activity, Coronary Artery Calcium, and Bone Mineral Density in Elderly Men and Women: A Preliminary Investigation."  He has also presented locally on the topics "Acute Kidney Injury" at Cartersville Medical Center and "Chronic Kidney Disease - Update 2012" at Harbin Clinic Cartersville Medical Office Building.

Dr. Ishaque received his Medical Doctorate from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.  He served as Chief Resident while completing his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana, Illinois.  He completed an Internal Medicine Internship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.  Dr. Ishaque is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Nephrology.  He is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, the National Kidney Foundation, the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.  Dr. Ishaque joined Harbin Clinic in 2011.
